Amazon FBA Fees UK Explained: What Selling Really Costs (2026)
"I'll buy for £4 and sell for £20" is how every Amazon business plan starts — and fees are why most of them are wrong. Here's every fee a UK FBA seller actually pays in 2026, and a worked example showing where the £20 really goes. (Exact rates change periodically; always confirm current figures in Seller Central's fee schedule and revenue calculator.)
1. The Selling Plan
Professional: £25/month + VAT. The Individual plan (£0.75 per item, no monthly fee) exists, but serious sellers need the Professional plan's advertising access and tools. This is your smallest fee — treat it as fixed overhead.
2. Referral Fees: Amazon's Commission
On every sale, Amazon takes a percentage of the total sale price (including delivery charge). Most categories sit around 15%; some differ — consumer electronics run lower (~7%), some categories higher. There's also a small minimum per-item fee in most categories. On a £20 product at 15%, that's £3 gone before anything else.
3. FBA Fulfilment Fees: Pick, Pack & Deliver
The per-unit fee for Amazon storing, picking, packing and delivering your order — determined by your product's size tier and weight. A small envelope-sized item might cost around £1.70–£2.30 to fulfil; a standard shoebox-sized parcel typically £2.80–£4.00; large and heavy items considerably more. Two design decisions control this fee forever: product dimensions and packaging dimensions. A packaging redesign that drops you one size tier saves that difference on every unit you ever sell — something we watch closely in our packaging design service.
4. Storage Fees
Monthly storage is charged per cubic foot/metre and roughly triples October–December. Slow-moving stock also attracts aged inventory surcharges after 180+ days. The lesson: FBA is a flow-through warehouse, not long-term storage — size your shipments to weeks of cover, not years.
5. The Fees Nobody Budgets For
- Returns processing — customer returns in many categories cost you the fulfilment fee again, and returned units aren't always resellable.
- Removal/disposal fees — getting unsold stock out of Amazon costs per unit.
- Inbound placement/prep fees — depending on how you split shipments and whether Amazon preps units for you.
- Digital services and regulatory adjustments — line items that appear on UK invoices and quietly shave margin.
The Worked Example: Where £24.99 Goes
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| Sale price | £24.99 |
| Referral fee (15%) | −£3.75 |
| FBA fulfilment fee (standard parcel) | −£3.20 |
| Storage (averaged per unit) | −£0.30 |
| Landed product cost (unit + freight + duty) | −£6.00 |
| Advertising allowance (12% of price) | −£3.00 |
| Returns & misc allowance | −£0.75 |
| Net profit per unit | ≈ £7.99 (32%) |
That's a healthy product. Now rerun it with a £9.99 sale price and the same fixed fees — the maths collapses. This is why fee modelling belongs in product research, before stock is ordered, not after.
Three Ways Sellers Reduce Their Fees
- Engineer the size tier. Design product and packaging to sit just inside a smaller tier — the single biggest controllable fee lever.
- Manage stock velocity. Avoid Q4 storage on slow movers, clear aged inventory before surcharges, and use deals to keep stock flowing.
- Make advertising efficient. Ad spend is a fee you control completely — well-managed PPC at 10% TACoS versus neglected campaigns at 25% is the difference between profit and breakeven.
